Food Distribution in Mandera East

In response to the growing food insecurity caused by prolonged drought and rising living costs, the Maryam Khalif Foundation, with generous support from Kenya Ports Authority, organized a large-scale food distribution exercise in Mandera East. This initiative specifically targeted vulnerable households, including widows, orphans, persons with disabilities, and elderly residents—those who are often the most affected during times of crisis.

Over 300 families benefited from the food packages, which included essential items such as maize flour, rice, sugar, beans, cooking oil, salt, and tea leaves. Distribution was conducted in a dignified and well-organized manner, with the help of local administrators, community elders, and volunteers who ensured transparency and fairness throughout the exercise.

The event was not only about delivering aid—it also created a platform for community engagement and solidarity. Beneficiaries expressed immense gratitude, noting that the food came at a time of real need, especially for families with no stable source of income. Local leaders praised the foundation for stepping in to complement government efforts in addressing hunger in hard-to-reach regions.

This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to humanitarian support and social protection, especially in regions where drought and economic hardship continue to threaten basic survival. Moving forward, Maryam Khalif Foundation plans to scale up such interventions by building more partnerships and mobilizing additional resources to support even more families across Mandera County.
